We wish everyone a Happy and Peaceful New Year and all the best for 2019.
Our Christmas events are all finished for another year.
First of all we would like to thank Susan Brennan for all the work she put into the Christmas Concert on the 14th December in St. James’ Church Mallow. The concert was a sell out again and was, as always, a most enjoyable evening. Thanks to everyone who helped preparing for it, those who supplied the refreshments, as well as those who worked on the night and all those who came along to support it.
The Christmas Jigsaw Club took place on the 8th December. Thanks to all who worked at this and to the children who prepared for the Nativity Play which took place in St. James on the 15th December. This was a lovely event.
The first of our Carol services was in St. John’s Buttevant on Wednesday 12th December at 8pm. The next was in St. James’ Mallow on the 16th December at 7.30pm, St. Mary’s Castletownroche held theirs on Friday 21st of December at 7.30pm and on 23rd of December our final Carol Service was held in St. Mary’s
Doneraile at 3pm. Thanks to all the church decorators, organist, musicians, readers and those who provided tea for all these services and anyone else that helped in any way.
Our Christmas Services were held on Christmas Eve in St. James Mallow at 8pm and St. Mary’s Doneraile at 11.30pm and then on Christmas Day in St. Mary’s Castletownroche at 10am and St. James Mallow at 11.45pm. Thanks to all the organists, readers and everyone who helped to make these services run so well.
The Children’s party was held on Friday 28th December at 3pm in St. James’ Hall, Mallow. Thanks to all involved in this and to Santa for making a quick visit even though he was exhausted after all his Christmas long distance journeys.
Our final service for Christmas was a United Parish service in St. James’ Mallow on Sunday 30th at 11am. This was a service called ‘From the Stable to the Cross’ which involved readings, singing and listening to various pieces of music. Thanks Susan, Emma, John and all who were involved in this.
Finally, on the 31st of December we had a full team of campanologists to toll out the old year and ring in the New Year in St. Mary’s Doneraile. We started with some short prayers, followed by the bell ringing and finished with our first cup of tea of 2019.
Our next meeting is our Bowling Fun Night on Tuesday 8th January leaving Mallow at 7.30pm for 8pm start in The Planet Cork. If you are free to come please contact Ruth Sherlock (086) 1588719, Vivian Wharton or Linda Deane with numbers by Monday 7th January. All welcome.
New Diocesan President: We would like to welcome Mrs. Hilary Dring and wish her all the best as she takes over as new Diocesan President. Also thanks to Mrs. Patsy Devoy for all the work she has done in recent years in the position. Subs are due at moment for 2019 if sent away thank you if not there is still time
