Music in North Cork Thanks to all who supported the concert in St Mary’s Church, Castletownroche on Saturday 9 June at 8.15pm and thanks to The Clerks Choral who presented a selection of songs under the title “From Madrigals to Madonna”. Thanks to Jane Annesley for arranging this.
Concert in Farahy 1 July
There will be another candlelight concert in St Colman’s Church, Farahy at 6pm on Sunday 1 July. Ian Sexton (piano) will be joined by Nicholas McMurry (counter tenor) and Ryan Morgan (tenor) for a programme of songs from the Baroque era (e.g. from Handel’s Messiah) to songs of the C20th which celebrate the countryside. Concert in St. James Mallow
There will be a concert in St James’ by Mark Slade on the organ with soloist Angela Davis (nee Hartnet) on Friday 6th July at 8pm, in aid of Church Funds.
Royal National Lifeboat Institute
There will be a collection after each of the three churches for the RNLI on Sunday the 10th July. Please give to this very worthy cause.
On the 14th July there will be a Coffee Day and Bring and Buy Cake Sale at the home of Linda and David Deane, Doneraile in aid of Fund for the future from 11am till late. This is a diocesan project so please put this date in your diary and come along. For further information please contact Linda at 086/8185290 or 022/24634.
Sunday 29th July there will be a United Service, St James’, Mallow followed by an “Austerity Lunch” of (homemade) soup and bread.
Parish Fete
Our parish Fete is on Saturday 11th August on the grounds of St. James Church Mallow starting at 11am – 4pm. A list of the stalls and games are as follows: Raffle, Gate, Bottle Stall, Bric-a-Brac, Cakes, Plants, DVDs and Cds, Country Market, Books and Toys, Teas, BBQ, Face Painting, Hair Brading, Smash the Crockery, Guess the weight of the cake, Guess the sweets in the jar and Name the teddy. We have put one person in charge of each stall and we want people to give their names to Diana Buckley as to what time they are available to help on a stall as she is making out a rota for the day. We are hoping people will at least give two hours of there time to help and make this fete a huge success.
It was decided to have an entrance fee of €2 and everyone including helpers is to pay this. Children are free.
It was decided to have a Raffle the same as last year. €2 a line or 3 lines for €5.
The prizes will be 1st Prize €100.00 2nd Prize a Hamper made up with contributions from the parishioners

3rd Prize A bottle of Whiskey And numerous other prizes.
Ruth Sherlock, Linda Deane and Diana Buckley have these sheets so please contact one of them if you have not already got a sheet to sell. Please return these sheets sold or unsold with money before the 5th August so Diana can organise them for the raffle. This year if the seller sells all 20 lines and have them returned to Diana before the 5th August they will be entered into a draw for a prize.
Food for the teas. Scones, tray bakes and cakes will be needed for the teas. Can you please let Ruth, Linda or Diana know what you might be able to make so that they can sort out a variety of food for the teas.
Sheep Head Hike
This year’s Sheep’s Head Hike for Christian Aid will happen on Saturday 1st September, beginning at 11:00 am at the Kilcrohane Community Centre, however this year we are offering two beautiful walk routes and a new time for registration (suitable for all age groups). Baptism
Congratulations to Jesse Maddix who was baptised in St James’ Church, Mallow on 16th June. We welcome him into the family of the church.
Confirmation
We wish our seven candidates well as they prepare for confirmation on the 9th September in Castletownroche. Nicola Barrett, Arthan Jansen, George Leger Mewis, Leah O’Flynn, Ciara O’Keeffe, Richard O’Sullivan and Matthew Wharton.
Sympathy
We express out sympathy to Nicky O’Reilly on the death of her father in South Africa.
School End of Term Service
We were delighted to welcome the pupils, staff and some parents to an end of term service in St James’. Thanks to all who took part and made this a lovely occasion much enjoyed by all who attended.

The course will run one Saturday morning a month from 10am to 1pm at St Luke’s Education Centre, Northridge House, Mahon, Cork except for Sat 24th November as that is the day of the Building Blocks Conference in Dublin.
Application/booking forms for the course will be issued to all parishes by the Institute in August.
