Since the last magazine a lot has happened here in Mallow in a short space of time. The big news is that Canon Eithne Lynch has been appointed as Rector of Mallow Union who is no stranger to Mallow Union. First of all her father was Rector in the parish Canon Fred Garrett and then when she was training in theological College she worked here in the parish before going as Curate to Douglas and Frankfield and then moving to Kilmoe Parish as Rector. We wish her well and Gods blessing as she prepares to come to Mallow.
We wish to thank our four nominationers Susan Buckley, Linda Deane, John Gardiner and John Nagle and the Board of Nominators for all their work in nominating a rector and are very grateful that their prayers and ours were answered so quickly on appointing a new rector.
The Institution will be held on Monday the 6th December in St. James Church Mallow at 8pm which we are all waiting for in anticipation.
On Sunday 31st October it was a very sad and emotional day for a lot of us as Parishioners here in Mallow Union to have to say goodbye to our Rector Denis and his wife Noelle, and girls Nell and Beth as it was his last Sunday in Mallow as Rector of the parish. A presentation was made to them from the parish after the Community Service. Followed by refreshments. Linda Deane spoke on behalf of the parishioners and thanked him for his work here in the parish and wished him well in Bandon. The churchwardens presented him with a Brief Case and money and Noelle received a bouquet of flowers. The Children’s Choir gave him a small gift and the African Community made a presentation to him too. Thanks to all who helped in any way with this service and with the refreshment afterwards.
Rev. Denis was then instituted the following night on Monday 1st November in Bandon where some parishioners went to say their final goodbyes but no doubt will meet him again throughout the dioceses.
The week before Rev. Denis left he had a very busy week. First on Sunday the 24th October he had two christenings. Sarah Anne Wharton daughter of Ian and Jane was baptized in Doneraile and Sophie Lily daughter of Carol Bolster and Stuart was baptized in Mallow. On Saturday the 30th October Dawn Pamela was baptized in Castletownroche daughter of Shirley Ladd and Dave Finn. We were delighted to welcome so many members of each of the families for these occasions. We pray that Sarah, Sophie and Dawn will grow in the light of Christ.
Just as we rejoice with those who rejoice we mourn with those who mourn. We would like to express our sympathy to the family of Dorothy Barrett whose funeral took place on Friday the 29th October in Mallow. We extend our sympathy to Robert, Ken and Edward and the wider family circle. Also to the family of Cecil Nagle who died and was buried in Doneraile on Sunday the 31st October we express our sympathy to his wife Eilish, brother Winston, sister Hazel and the wider family circle. We express our sympathy also to Marilyn Cassey and her family whose brother Tom Dimmick died up North in the early hours of Sunday morning the 24th October unexpectedly. May their souls and all the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace.
