Presentation of Christ in the Temple (Candlemas)
We might not think it but days are lengthening and as a sign of it the Church kept the wonderful feast of the Presentation of Christ in the Temple (or Candlemas) on February 2nd. We hope this moment together provided us with a moment to turn our minds and hearts from the celebration of the birth of Christ towards his passion and resurrection, with Lent coming into view (February 17th). Thanks to all who joined in this service and despite the rather slow start due to technical issues, we celebrated the feast in a meaningful way.

Payment for the diocesan magazine for the year 2021 is now due. Please contact Susan Buckley (025/39387) to arrange payment of these. February 2021 has been printed but due to restrictions cannot be collected. If you want a copy emailed to you please contact Diana Buckley (dianabuckley2@gmail.com)
Notes of Zoom Select Vestry Meeting 21/1/2021
This was the first Select Vestry Meeting for the new Rector to chair and the first time he had seen most of the vestry members so the meeting started with everyone introducing themselves and saying something about themselves.
Minutes of the last meeting were approved.
Matters arising – Thanks to Linda Deane for the minutes.
Thanks to Susan and Emma Brennan for all the work for the concert, to Maurice Clancy for decorating the church and to Linda Deane for the Mince pies.

Rectory – the Rector had been in the Rectory since 18th December and was generally delighted with the rectory. Thanks to everyone for all the work they had done in the Rectory. The exterior is still to be painted and Andrew Gardiner is to look at getting this done.
St. James’ Church – There are repairs to be done to the vestry roof and the tower louvers. They have applied for a grant and are awaiting a reply.

Health and Safety – Victor Wolfe is updating statements and the Rector is to sign them.
Rector’s Business/any other business – The Rector thanked all for the welcome he had received to the parish and for people’s prayers for him around the time of his Institution on the Epiphany. He had arrived into Cork during a pandemic which means it will take time to get to know each other. He shared his hope that the churches of Mallow Union would become more visible in the community. Having a parish logo would be useful, for starters.
