The first of our Harvest Thanksgiving service was held in Mallow on the 23rd September at 3pm. Thanks to all involved in this and especial word of thanks to Rev.Paul Arbuthnot for coming to preach at this service. The collection was for Mallow Search and Rescue. The next of our harvest services is in Doneraile on Sunday 14th October at 3pm. Preacher Canon Alan Marley and the collection is for ISPCC and Christian Aid. The Castletownroche harvest service is on Sunday 21st October at 3pm. Preacher is Rev. David Bowles and the collection is going to Protestant Aid.

Mothers Union

Our Opening service was held on Wednesday 26th September at 8pm in St. James’ Church. Thanks to Canon Eithne for taking the service, also to all the ladies who didreading, played the organ, did collection, and read suitable prayers for the night. Also to everyone who attended. Our next meeting will be on Wednesday 17th October at 8pm in St. James Hall.  Speaker to be confirmed literature box and Christmas cards will be on sale on the night.
We have been invited to Lismore on Tuesday 16th October Speaker on the night will be Margaret Kingston on ‘Faith and Fashion’. If you are interested contact Ruth Sherlock.

St. Mary’s Church, Doneraile
As part of Culture night, St Mary’s hosted a pop-up gallery. It ran from Friday evening 21st of September when there was an official opening at 7.30pm to 9.30pm and Saturday from 12noon to 4pm and again on Sunday 11am-4pm. A large crowd attended and it was much enjoyed.  Thanks to Mary St Leger for all her work in this and to all who were involved.

St. James’ Church, Mallow
Please keep November 2nd free for the first of a winter series of concerts for St. James Church Mallow. There will be an international tenor from Miami, Gerardo Jose Ortega performing as well as Caoimhe Cronin, Sibeal, Cor Mhaigh Ealla, Louise Luddy, Ceoltiori Mhaigh Ealla. Admission is €15.00, tickets available at “Katie’s” Proceeds to Mallow Union of Parishes & a donation to Mallow Tidy Towns. Please support thisand tell your friends about it.

Congratulations to Geoffrey Cameron and Ann-Marie Davis who came to be marriedin St. Mary’s Church Castletownroche on Friday 28th September and also to Fay Woolf and Guy Heatherington who were married in St. Mary’s Church Castletownroche on Tuesday 2nd October.

Sympathy

We extend our sympathy to Juliet and Francis Atkinson and family on the death of her mother, Irene Nagle, recently in Cork. Also to Marilyn Casey on the death of her sister Lorian Blackmore.

Notes from the vestry meeting 6/9/2018
A lot of GDPR forms have been returned (blue forms) and there are still some coming.  We have 173 families and 93 have returned.
Finances were discussed and the treasurer told us it looked as if there was going to be a shortfall of around €10,000 by the end of the year, so it was decided to have a gift day on the 7th October to try and fill this shortfall. Letters were to go out to all parishioners about this and if there are any queries please contact the Treasurer Jackie Nagle or the Rector.
St. James’ Church, Mallow – chipped paint off tower and there is one square left to do. Weeds must be removed from Steeple and tower but 100ft hoist not available at themoment. Plasterers and painters coming. Window panes have to be replaced. The tower area must be primed first before painting. Total cost is estimated at €8,125.
St. Mary’s Church, Castletownroche – New bulbs have been put up and old shades cleaned
St. Mary’s Church, Doneraile – Windows have been painted and trees sorted. Pigeons are a problem outside the door. Thanks to Ellen and Edward for bringing the timber to the fete to sell and to Ellen for getting the windows painted. Trees by Golf Club wall are getting big. We are to talk to Golf club about this. Pop-up Art Exhibition in on in Doneraile 21st and 22nd September as part of Culture night.
Thanks to all who supported the Parish Picnic in any way.
