We wish everyone well as they settle into schools and colleges, some maybe for the
first time or to those who started a new job this September. We hope all that did
their Leaving Certificate this year got the results they wants and got the choice of
courses etc. they wanted.
We hope all returned safely yesterday from the Sheeps Head Hike in West Cork.
There were three parishioners planning on doing this hike. If you want to support
Christian Aid and our hikers you can give money to Canon Eithne and she will pass
it on.

MU

We begin our Autumn season hoping everyone had a good Summer. First we will
take a look back at our last event. On July 4th we held our outing. We left Mallow at
9am picking up more people at Farahy and Mitchelstown. Our first stop was at The
Park Hotel Clonmel for tea and scones. Then heading of to Tullow, Co. Carlow
where we stopped at Rathwood Garden Centre. Had lunch and some free time there.
Also we were given a demonstration on pressed flowers. Then we were able to
make our own creations and bring them home with us. Our next stop was on to
Myshall church. It is a very unusual and unique building. It was designed after the
style of Salisbury Cathedral with one tower and spire. The architect was Mr. George
Coppinger Ashlin from Cork. It is well worth a visit if you find yourself in that area.
Thank you to Canon Tom Sherlock for leading a short service in the Church. To
close the service we sang the well known Hymn “All things bright and beautiful”
which was a very appropriate end to our visit to the church.
Our last stop of the day was at Fenagh for our evening meal. This was at the home
of our All Ireland President. We thank Mrs. Phyllis Grothier and her husband
George for their kind invitation. Also it was great to meet some of the members of
that branch.
An enjoyable day was had by all. Thanks to the bus driver, those who organised it
(Ruth, Hazel and Vivian) and everyone who supported the outing.
On 1st July we were sad to hear the death of Pat Foott. She was a faithful and loyal
member for years. Attending all meetings when able to do so. She lived her life to
the full. Just a week before her death she received a badge in Dublin for fundraising
for 50 years with the R.N.L.I. where she was well known by many. We offer our
sympathy to all her family.
Next meeting
Opening Service is on Tuesday 15th September at 8pm in St. James Church. This
will be followed by a short planning and AGM meeting. All welcome to attend.

Confirmation
Confirmation classes will be commencing on Friday 2nd October from 7.30 to
8.30pm in the Rectory. If you have not yet given your name to Canon Eithne please
do so. The Confirmation service will be on Sunday 22nd November in St James’
Church, Mallow.

Sympathy

We sympathise with the family of Margaret Ridgeway whose funeral
service was held in Doneraile on 13th July. The interment took place in the Friends
graveyard in Waterford where her husband was buried. We also sympathise with
John Gardiner and Betty Buckley and the wider family circle on the death of their
brother Sam in England.

Congratulations to Willie and Myrtle Forde on the arrival of a grandson, Charlie a
son for Olivia and Seamus Clifford. Also to Tom and Ann Ladd on the arrival of a
grandson, Oisin a son for Sylvia and Cathal.
Congratulations to Emmanuel Adebisi who celebrated his 60th birthday on 15th
August with a service of Holy Communion in St. James Church to which he invited
his many friends. It was a most enjoyable event.

Notes from Vestry Meeting 8/7/2015
A tree in Dromtarriffe was taken down safely early one morning recently.
Finances – Insurance has been paid for this year. We are to try and get advice about
Insurance for our buildings. Revenue forms must be sent in again to claim back tax.
Rectory- Shower door smashed and will be fixed.
St James Church – OK. New “Sing to the Word” music hymn book and CD ordered
and 1 word edition and we can print off when we need them.
St. Mary’s Castletownroche – Heritage man came and met Donal Relihan Builder
and gave an estimate of €460 for necessary repair to roof. He has given a quotation
of €550 each side of the church for painting the outside of the windows and
repairing them. This is to be discussed in Castletownroche.
St. Mary’s Doneraile- Fás man on holidays. The tree is to be taken down in
Doneraile and graves can then be sorted.
The RCB Kanturk money will be used for both these Churches.
Health & Safety – Everyone is to keep an eye out for health and safety issues in our
churches. Under Health and Safety no one over 70 years is to be up a ladder in our
churches or grounds.
There will be another Fete committee meeting on 29th July.
Other business – Thanks to MU members for arranging the outing it was a pity than
more parishioners didn’t go on this outing as it was open to all.
There was a wreath sent from the parishioners and vestry for Pat Foott’s grave.
Mission – Do Hotels and B&B in our area have our church service times?
Fire extinguishers are to be serviced on Friday.
Next meeting is on Tuesday 8th September at 8pm in St. James Hall.
