is a charge of €2 at the gate for Adults and children are free. There will be a raffle on the
gate ticket. There will be all the usual stalls and a raffle. We are asking parishioners for
contributions to the hamper and it will be put together at the discretion of the Fete
committee. There is a rota going around and if you have not already been asked and are
free to help please let one of the committee know what time you are available to help and
what stall you would be willing to help on. If you have any queries about the fete please
contact the committee. The committee is Canon Eithne, Linda Deane, James or Hazel
Ladd, Richard Lynch, Ruth Sherlock, Jackie Nagle and Diana Buckley. Please ensure any
items you send in for the fete are in good working condition and that there are no items
out of date.
Mums in May
On the 18th June this branch held a tea party in the home of Canon Tom
and Hazel Sherlock Kildorrerry. The sun shone so we all enjoyed the lovely afternoon
outside where tea and some beautiful cakes were served. In the background we were able
to listen to music played by Eammon and Frank. It was a very socialable
afternoon. Thanks to Canon Tom and Hazel for their hospitality and for all their work
getting ready also everyone who helped on the day and sent cakes. The money raised was
€1,015 to date. This project will support: Mothers Union literacy in Ethiopia, Mothers
Union projects across Ireland, Mothers Union in the 12 dioceses of Ireland.
Sympathy to two of our members Jean Gardiner on the death of her
brother Thomas Ruttle and to Hazel Sherlock on the loss of her sister Lily
Hales recently.
Kinneigh Mothers Union plan to hold the Songs of Praise Service which Kilmocomogue
Mothers Union ran last October. This was a very enjoyable service and we thought it
would be nice to have another one.
We hope to hold it on Sunday the 18th of October at 3pm in Farranthomas Church with
refreshments in the hall afterwards. This will be a fundraising effort for the Mums in May
Appeal.
Now what we need from you all please is some of your favourite hymns.
If we could hear from you by the 15th of August it would give us good time to get it all
together.
If the person who chooses the hymn can say a few words about why it is their favourite
before we sing it that would be great or a representative from the Mothers Union group
could speak about the hymn and why it was chosen.
I look forward to hearing from you sometime over the Summer with your choices.
Thanks,
Grace Hosford- enrolling member Kinneigh Mothers Union.
We wishing all our members a good summer.
Sympathy
We sympathise with Ruby Austin on the death of her aunt and we sympathise with the
Hales family on the death of Lily recently and to all the extended family. Also to the Foott
family on the sudden death of Patricia (Pat) who died on Wednesday last.
Elizabeth Bowen Commemoration
The annual Service of Commemoration will take place on Sunday 6 September at 3.30pm
in St Colman’s Church Farahy. As usual the service will take the form of Evening Prayer in
the old form and be led by Very Rev Robert McCarthy. The Address will be given by Prof
Sean Barrett of Trinity College Dublin.
I’m writing to you to ask that you and your organisation get involved in a
community effort to assist people who might get left behind during the
introduction of Eircode.
You are probably aware that Ireland is introducing postcodes in 2015. An
Eircode is a smart location code for all Irish addresses. Unlike other countries,
where postcodes define clusters or groups of addresses, an Eircode will identify
an individual address – rural or urban – and help show exactly where it is
located. This means every residential address and business will receive a unique
Eircode.
There are numerous benefits of introducing Eircode. Not only will it make the
delivery of services and goods to households easier, but in the case of a medical
emergency, being able to accurately and quickly identify an address can save
valuable minutes. During the launch phase this July, all residents and businesses
will receive a letter notifying them of the Eircode for their address. Addresses
will not be changing; an Eircode will simply be added to current addresses.
The Wheel, working closely with Irish Rural Link, are involved in a nationwide
effort to reach out to people who may get left behind when Eircodes are
introduced. This target group are likely to be older, have less formal education,
be disadvantaged (e.g. have a disability, live alone), or have few social networks.
Here in Cork, the County has been divided East/West. Niall Walsh from
Avondhu Blackwater is the Outreach Champion for the Cork East area and Lisa
Cashman from the West Cork Development Partnership is the Outreach
Champion for Cork West. They want to get as many community and voluntary
organisations involved in this effort. The core approach is that the target groups
are reached through people that they already know and trust and are well-placed
to advise them. These people will talk to them on a one-to-one or one-to-few
basis to tell them about Eircode, to answer their questions and to reassure them.
This means that they need people in every local area to get involved. The basic
information about Eircode is quite simple and most people will not have
difficulty
Could you or your organisation help out? Do you know some people that your
organisation helps or who live in your area who might need some assistance?
Could you get the word out through your organisation? If so, please contact
either Niall or Lisa to let them know how your organisation can help. They can
provide leaflets, posters, text for newsletters and other information to make it as
easy as possible for you.
