TODAY’S READINGS

Jeremiah 31: 7-9
For thus says the Lord: Sing aloud with gladness for Jacob, and raise shouts for the chief of the nations; proclaim, give praise, and say, ‘Save, O Lord, your people, the remnant of Israel.’ See, I am going to bring them from the land of the north, and gather them from the farthest parts of the earth, among them the blind and the lame, those with child and those in labour, together; a great company, they shall return here. With weeping they shall come, and with consolations* I will lead them back, I will let them walk by brooks of water, in a straight path in which they shall not stumble; for I have become a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my firstborn.

Mark 10: 46-52
They came to Jericho. As Jesus and his disciples and a large crowd were leaving Jericho, Bartimaeus son of Timaeus, a blind beggar, was sitting by the roadside. When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout out and say, ‘Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!’ Many sternly ordered him to be quiet, but he cried out even more loudly, ‘Son of David, have mercy on me!’ Jesus stood still and said, ‘Call him here.’ And they called the blind man, saying to him, ‘Take heart; get up, he is calling you.’ So throwing off his cloak, he sprang up and came to Jesus. Then Jesus said to him, ‘What do you want me to do for you?’ The blind man said to him, ‘My teacher, let me see again.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Go; your faith has made you well.’ Immediately he regained his sight and followed him on the way.

CONFIRMATION some young people have already expressed the wish to prepare for Confirmation and the Rector would be glad to hear from others (of any age) who wish to take this step by confirming the faith of their baptism. He is very happy to talk through any questions that enquirers (or their parents, where appropriate) may have.

FOR YOUR PRAYERS

For Paul, our Bishop; and for the clergy and people of this united Diocese. In the Anglican Communion, for the Extra Provincial Churches.

We pray for all those known to us, including John Ladd, Peter, Nicky, Ned Foott, Marjorie Thompson, Melissa, Margaret, Katie, Fr Tom Lehane.

We commend to God’s mercy all who have recently died, among them Thomas O’Sullivan, Margaret Clifford, Bose Akanu and Kenneth Wilkinson (priest) along with those we have loved and lost whose anniversary of death occurs at this time of year, especially Albert Daly.

We pray for all our healthcare professionals who are facing increasing workloads, especially in hospitals and ICUs as infection levels continue to rise. And we pray for ourselves, that we may all continue to act responsibly and safely for the well-being of everyone in our communities.
