Dear Friends
We are staring a new venture for the Wednesday Night Study Group. We are going to look at the book “letters to Malcolm” by C.S. Lewis. (see attached poster). The subtitle is ‘chiefly on prayer’ and is an exploration by Lewis (author of the ‘the Lion, the witch and the wardrobe’ and the other Narnia books) looking at his questions about prayer sharing many of his own thoughts, ideas, and problems in a very accessible format – writing letters to a friend so it becomes a conversation that we too can share in.
The way we are running the book club is to use online video talks from the C.S. Lewis Institute, which you can find here https://www.cslewisinstitute.org/Letters_to_Malcolm. The idea is that people will look at the video at their own convenience and then on each Wednesday 8.15pm we will have a Zoom get together to discuss things from those talks, and our reading of the book and any general things that have arisen in regard to prayer and praying. It is very informal but hopefully helpful
“Letters to Malcolm” can be bought through online bookshops. However Chris Bond has also discovered that you can get a free epub or pdf at http://www.fadedpage.com/ You just go to the link and put in a search for “letters to Malcolm” and it gives various options to download versions of the book (I have downloaded the epub version to read on my computer and Tablet – it works well …..and saves money!!)
So, if you have ever wanted to explore the subject of praying, if you have questions or confusions or just wanted to explore the topic deeper, you would be very welcome to join in. Simply email me at alan.marley@ucc.ie and I will send you the link to the Wednesday get-together near the time: in the meantime you can look at the first talk – Letters to Malcolm: The Struggle to Understand Prayer on the institute’s website https://www.cslewisinstitute.org/Letters_to_Malcolm.
With all good wishes
Alan
