Dear friends
In line with present government restrictions, and on the advice of the Archdeacon, I am postponing the General Vestry Meeting scheduled for next Tuesday (8th Sept)
We will know more after 13th September when these restrictions run out and will reappraise when to hold the GVM in the light of any
announcements
Any nominations that have been forward will remain valid for the re-arranged meeting
With all good wishes
Alan

Ordinations
On Sunday last 30th August 2020, two people from the United Dioceses of Cork, Cloyne and Ross in the Church of Ireland were ordained deacon: Patrick Gerrard Culleton and Sabrina Ann Cooke. Usually ordinations like this happen at one great gala event attended by many hundreds of people from far and near. This year, however, the now familiar Coronavirus restrictions mean that Pat Culleton was ordained on his own with a small group of people in attendance in St Peter’s Church, Bandon on Sunday morning, and Sabrina Cooke was ordained in Saint Fin Barre’s Cathedral, Cork at a similarly small event on Sunday afternoon.
Bishop Colton was not able to preside at the ordinations himself this year, however, as he is recovering at home from an operation to replace his shoulder last Saturday which was necessary following an accident, a fall, on the summit of Mount Gabriel earlier in the month of August. At Bishop Colton’s request, the Right Reverend Dr Richard Clarke, now resident in the Diocese in retirement, and former Archbishop of Armagh, conducted the ordination service.
Both Sabrina and Pat have been serving until now in lay ministry in the Diocese as licensed readers. Pat has also been serving as a local lay minister doing pastoral work. Following his ordination Pat will serve in the ordained local ministry in the Bandon Union of Parishes. Sabrina, having completed her third year in a Masters of Theology at Trinity College, Dublin, is now entering her final year of training for full-time stipendiary ministry and will serve in an internship under the Very Rev. Susan Green in Cloyne Union of Parishes.
Story
We’ve been holding Christian Aid walks in September for over a decade now, with hundreds coming along each year to our Sheep’s Head Hikes, September Strolls and Laganside Walks.
Sadly, this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, we are unable to run these events like we usually would. So we’re mixing things up a bit. This Autumn, we want you to walk with us wherever you are! You set the time and place, we set the challenge: 2,142km throughout the month of September, as together we walk the length of the Nicaraguan border. As we stroll or hike during the month of September, we’ll be raising money for people facing crisis around the world. People like Angela and her family in Nicaragua.
Angela’s coffee farm used to provide a good living for her family. But now she’s facing a crisis. The changing climate in Nicaragua means her coffee harvests are shrinking every year. But there is hope. Supported by Christian Aids local partner, Soppexcca, Angela’s community is coming together as a local cooperative to share resources and knowledge so that they can urgently protect their livelihoods. They’re helping farmers shift from coffee production to climate-resistant cocoa, safeguarding their income from climate shocks. Hike, stroll and stand in solidarity with your global neighbours this September.

Christian Aid
Please support with donations the Christian Aid Big Walk hikers who will be hiking and raising funds for work on Christian Aid on the Sheep’s Head Way on Saturday 5th September. There will be a team of 10 hikers who will be part of the hiker on the day. Thank you for your support https://www.justgiving.com/team/sheepsheadteam
Children’s Ministry Team
Thank you to Lydia Mond in the Children’s Ministry team in Dublin for sending us two very appropriate resources which you will hopefully find useful in your ministry with children.
1. Kirsty Lynch , the diocesan children’s officer in Derry & Raphoe has put together a great ideas sheet for their own ‘Seeds’ Sunday Clubs who still won’t be meeting in the Autumn. She is offering it to all of us and if you like, you can contextualise it and send it out to support your parish.
2. Lydia Monds has put together a faith based resource for coping with anxiety, either for a parent with anxiety or for a parent supporting a child with anxiety. Again, it is here as a PDF if you just want to print it or as a word document as you can then take out what’s relevant to you in your parish.
Good luck to all of you!
God bless,
Elaine
