We wish everyone well after the Summer. We hope all those who did their leaving certificate examinations in June got the results they wanted and got the courses they wanted to do. We wish all those well starting Pre-school, Primary School, Secondary School and College. Congratulations to any who graduated from College and are now looking for work or have found employment.
Parish Fete
Thanks to all who helped with the Fete on Saturday 13th August in any way before during or afterwards. It all helped to make it the success that it was. €1000 more than last year was raised. Lists of raffle and prize winners are available at the back of each church.
Mothers Union
Hope all the members had a good summer. On July 2nd we had our M.U outing. We left Mallow with a full bus and headed on our journey to Killarney. First we enjoyed tea and scones at Sandpit House. Then we headed off towards Killarney. Our first stop was Ross Castle where we went on a boat trip. This was very enjoyable as our tour guide gave us lots of information about the lake. By now the rain had stopped and we could see the view around the lake. Next stop was Muckcross House for lunch and a walk around the gardens in the Kerry sunshine. Our next adventure was a trip on the Jaunting cars which was a first for many of the group. This took us up to the Torc Waterfall. Then we headed into town for a little shopping. We had our evening meal in the Killarney Heights Hotel before heading home. Delighted to have Canon Eithne and Richard join us. Thanks to everyone who came and supported it also those Fermoy ladies who came along. Thank you to the people who organised it – Ruth, Hazel and Vivian. A most enjoyable day was had by all.
As summer ends our new season begins with an Opening service on Wednesday 28 th
September @ 8 pm. Rev Isobel Jackson has accepted our invitation to preach at this service.
UCC Freshers Day takes place at UCC on 10th September at which free copies of “Curry in a Hurry” are handed out to all new students. Patsy is looking for help with the distribution. Again, if any of your members are free on that day, perhaps they would let Patsy know, either by e mail patsydevoy@eircom.net or 087 6413559.
The Women’s Mini Marathon is taking place on 25th September. Patsy and Pam Wood have already entered and are taking part in aid of Mothers’ Union. Again, if anyone is free to run or walk, please let Patsy know. The funds raised will be divided between diocesan funds and Phyllis Grothier’s fundraising. Phyllis, our All Ireland President, has been challenged to raised funds as Mothers Union celebrates its 140th anniversary in 2016.
Royal Lifeboat Collection
There was a collection for the Royal Lifeboat on Sunday 10th July in all three churches. Doneraile collection was €137.70, Castletownroche €90 and Mallow €82.12. Maurice Clancy went to Cahirmee Horse Fair and raised €171.54. Thanks to all collectors and people who donated in the churches and in the Mallow and surrounding areas. So far €3,290.25 has been collected. There will also be other collections. On behalf of myself, Valerie Deane and RNLI, a huge thanks for helping this worthy cause.
Anam Cara, the national organisation that supports bereaved parents, is holding its next monthly Parent Evening on Wednesday 7th of September from 19:30 to 21:00 in Brú Columbanus, Cardinal Way, Wilton, Cork (please note change of venue). This event is open to all bereaved parents regardless of the age your child died, the circumstances of their death, or whether the death was recent or not.
Elizabeth Bowen Commemoration
This year’s service will take place on Sunday 11th September at 3.30pm. As usual the service takes the form of Evening Prayer according to the Book of Common Prayer and the address will be given by Bishop Richard Henderson.

The reunion is for all ex members of the 1st and 2nd Cork Company G.B. Please bring something light to eat for sharing as well as any old memorabilia and photos. Spread the word!

Our sympathy also to the Browne family on the death of Dan Browne Castletownroche. To his son David, daughter-in-law Sara and grandchildren Emma and Harry.
UP COMING CDYC EVENTS
September 23rd -25th–Cape Clear Event ~ A weekend away to Cape Clear where there will be lots of activities, both on land and in the water. Everyone stays in the hostel and it is a combination of fun activities and interesting teachings. For those in secondary school. Your Rector has booking forms.
October 8th–20`s and 30`s night ~ I believe it will be held in Dunmanway and a home-cooked meal will be served. An activity such as line dancing or a table quiz will take place, as well as a guided discussion on various topics. For those in the 20-30 age bracket.
October 14th-15th–Pamper Weekend ~ A pamper weekend in a youth leaders home, I believe it will be in West Cork, and it is for girls in secondary school. It’s a fun weekend of makeovers and updo’s as well as talks on beauty and self-esteem. Lots of yummy food too!
October 29th-31st–ANOIS ~ A weekend away for the bank holiday in Wilson’s Hospital Secondary School in Westmeath. The weekend includes activities, a great worship band, top speakers and as it is a country-wide event it’s a great way to get to know young people from all over Ireland. The age for the event is 14+. November 19th–5-Aside Soccer ~This event takes place in the National Maritime College in Ringaskiddy and it is always one of our biggest events! Young people can either bring a team or get one on the day and when they are not playing soccer there is a games room and tuck shop. The day always finishes with pizza as well! For those in secondary school.
December 10th–Worship Event in Dublin ~ This event took place for the first time last year and it was a great success. I am not quite sure of the format this year but last year everyone was bused up to Dublin early for shopping in the city, then there was a youth service, followed by a disco. Our group then spent the night in a church hall and headed back to Cork the next day. Again, it is another national event. It’s for those in secondary school and I will have more information on the format closer to the time.
Please let me know if you any questions and I will continue to send on more information and forms as they come in. Blessings! Kristin
