The first of our Harvest Services this year was in Doneraile on Sunday 27th September when our speaker was Canon Tom Sherlock. The Collection was for  Christian Aid and €900 was sent to them. Then Mallow Harvest service was in St. James  Church on Sunday 4th October. The speaker was Canon Gerard Casey. Collection was for ARC (cancer support) and €600 was sent away to them. Castletownroche Harvest was on Sunday 11th October and the speaker was Wilfred Baker. Collection was for Cork Simon and €600 was sent to them. Thank to all the speakers for coming to speak at our services and to all the church congregations for decorating the churches, and helping with the services in any way and for providing the refreshments.

MU

On Wednesday the 21st October we had our last meeting. Thanks to Jennifer Flynn for coming and speaking to us about the Team Hope Christmas Shoe Box appeal. She showed us a video of the shoeboxes being delivered to the children which gave us an insight into where the shoeboxes go. Also, we saw the children receiving them and the joy on their faces. Jennifer explained the different items that can be used to fill the boxes. It is amazing how much that can fit into a shoebox. It makes us all appreciate what some children have here in Ireland. There is boxes in each of the three churches if people would like to contribute to the appeal they can do so before the 10th November. If you want further information please contact Ruth Sherlock or any MU member about it. Thanks also to Hazel Sherlock who brought the MU literature box on the night. Also to everyone who came and supported on the night.

A few of our members went to the Songs of Praise Service in Farranthomas Church (Kinneigh Union) on Sunday the 18th October. This was a very enjoyable service. The twelve hymns sung were mostly well know ones and each was introduced by someone saying why they liked and picked that hymn for the service.

MU Conference will take place from November 13th – 15th at the Garryvoe Hotel & Leisure Centre, Castlemartyr. “Family Matter” will be a weekend of fun, refreshment and relaxation with special speaker Bishop Richard Henderson. The conference is not confined to MU members and if you want a form to register please get one from Ruth Sherlock. The closing date to return the form with payment was 31st October but if you do so immediately there maybe still spaces.

We will have a Christmas meal on Wednesday 2nd December in Charleville Park Hotel at 8pm.
