Parish News – November 2013

Thanks to Rev. Edwin Hunter for coming to speak to us at our Mallow Harvest Service, to Rev Brian O’Reilly for coming to Doneraile and Rev. Elaine Murray for coming to Castletownroche. Thanks to all involved in getting the three churches decorated for the harvest and for making the services such a great celebration. Thanks also to everyone for attending the services and for making them so special.

There was an Ecumenical Service on Tuesday 8th October in St Mary’s Church Mallow led by Canon Casey and the Rector, as part of the celebration of 50 years of the Credit Union opening in Mallow.

The Annual Thomas Davis Commemoration Service was held in St. James’ Church, Mallow. Davis was baptised in the font which had been moved from the old church when St. James’ was built. The service was led by the rector and the lecture was given by Professor Vincent Comerford, Professor Emeritus of Modern History NUI Maynooth. The music was provided by Cór agus Ceoltóiri Ghaelscoil Thomáis Dáibhis and the Thomas Davis Pipe Band. A calendar for 2014 has been produced to celebrate the bi-centenary of his birth.

At a recent vestry meeting it was brought to our attention by the treasurer again that it was looking like there would be a shortfall this year in parish funds. There are two fundraisers coming up the Pot Luck Supper in November (details elsewhere on newsletter) and the Christmas Concert in St. James in December. So please continue to give what you can in the plate and also try and support these two events so that we may not have to do any further fundraising for the parish.

Census
For three out of the four Sundays in November in each of the churches as your going into church you are being asked to fill in a form (marking male or female and the age bracket you are in) as the dioceses are doing a census of the whole dioceses.

Confirmation
We pray for those who were confirmed today in St. Mary’s Church, Doneraile. For Jesse Maddix, Sabrina Ijisesan, Corey and Ethan Knipe.

Congratulations
to Catriona Lysaght and Donal Healy on the birth of their daughter Tessa recently and to her grandparents Mark and Julia Lysaght.

HOLY CROSS CHURCH CHARLEVILLE
Re – Mass of Thanksgiving to conclude the Year of Faith
14th October 2013

Dear Rev. Eithne,
To mark the closure of the Church’s Year of Faith 2012 – 2013, Charleville Parish will offer a special Mass of Thanksgiving in Holy Cross Church on Sunday 24th November 2013, Feast of Christ the King, at 7.00p.m.
It is hoped that this may be an occasion of grace for the whole Community here in Charleville, with as full as possible participation by all the Faith and Community groups that, on a daily basis, serve so well our Parish and wider Community.
Therefore, we wish to invite your group to attend this memorable celebration, as we give thanks together to God for all the remarkable good that is taking place through so many groups and organisations present in Charleville and give due recognition as a Community for such.
We are glad to inform you that our guest choir will be Midleton Parish Youth Group. Please God, they will contribute to the beauty of the Mass with their youthful enthusiasm and musicality.
If it is not possible to have all the members of your group attend, perhaps a representation might be in a position to join us for the Mass. We look forward to your participation on the night.
Yours sincerely,
Canon Sean Cotter, P.P.
Fr. Tom Naughton, C.C.
