Parish Fete

As most of you know by now we are having our Fete on the Saturday 13th August on the grounds of St. James Church, Mallow starting at 12 noon. We are looking for donations of Bottles (for Bottle Stall), bric-a-Brac, cakes, plants, country produce, books, toys, cakes for teas, old or chipped crockery, old shopping bags or boxes.

If you have not already contributioned to the hamper for the raffle or want to sell more lines or have not returned your lines please contact Ruth Sherlock, Linda Deane or Diana Buckley immediately as we need contributions for hamper and lines returned before the 10th August.

If you want to hand in any of your contributions before the day of the fete you can drop them to the hall on Friday 12th between 4pm and 9pm or on Saturday morning. All people in charge of stalls and any other helpers that are free to be there are asked to be at Mallow Church between 9.30am and 10am to set up the stalls and get ready for Fete. There will be no parking on the church grounds on the day of fete so please come early on Saturday morning to unload your contributions from the cars for the fete. Floats will be provided on the day so any stall holders need not worry about change.

There will be a signed Cork Jersey Auctioned at 3pm and also John Rocha Glasses (worth €300) and maybe more items so please spread the word to all your friends and neighbours about the auction and fete so that we can get a crowd together on the day to make this Fete an enjoyable and worth while day for everyone. A rota for the day is enclosed in this newsletter and if your name is not on the rota and you want to help please contact Diana Buckley.

Sheep’s Head Hike 2011

When: Saturday 3 September 2011
Where: Sheep’s Head Way, West Cork
Registration: 11:30am, Kilcrohane Community Hall, Kilcrohane Village

Explore the heights and beautiful scenery of the Sheep’s Head Way. Take on the pathways and ridge ways of West Cork’s scenic Sheep’s Head Way and help support the work of Christian Aid in some of the world’s poorest communities. Enjoy a walk along this famous Irish peninsula, make new friends, enjoy a great community spirit and raise crucial funds for Christian Aid’s work.

Christian Aid Sheep Head Hike starts at ‘Finn Mac Cool’s Seat’; climbing up onto the ‘Seefin Ridge’; then towards the ‘Windy Gap’; down Bran Mountain; Rosskerrig Mountain; down the Sli Bhran onto the ‘Old Military Road’ before returning towards to the village of Kilcrohane.
At Poet’s Well’s walkers can either take the coach bus back to Kilcrohane village or continue walking towards Farranamagh Lough (Lough of the Monks), and back to Kilcrohane Community Hall where there will be a reception for all walkers. There will be a rest and reflection at half point halfway across the ridge way.

Some of our parishioners are hoping to do this walk Richard Lynch, Charlotte Kitto and Diana Buckley so if you want to sponsor any of them they would be very grateful to receive your donation.

Mothers Union and Friends

We had decided at our AGM to have a travelling supper on the 1st October but we have had to change the date so now it is on the 8th October. So please keep this date free to go to one house for starter, another house for main course and St. James Hall for dessert. There will be more information about this on the next newsletter.
